Los Cabos, located at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico, is a popular destination known for its stunning natural beauty, vibrant culture, and luxurious lifestyle. Here’s an overview of the lifestyle you can expect in Los Cabos, along with a few recommendations based on my favorite things to do in this stunning coastal haven.
Beach life: Los Cabos has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This area of Baja California Sur is known for its sandy walkable beaches and crystal-clear waters, where people enjoy swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, fishing or simply spending the day on a yacht.
One of my favorite areas to visit with both family and friends undoubtedly is Medano Beach. Its proximity to the marina, the appeal of the pristine swimmable beach, and a variety of desirable food options to suit every preference.
If you are aiming for a secluded day in the sun, there are several exclusive beach clubs you can choose from. If you are looking for a place to have lunch, while you are enjoying the beach ambiance, this area offers different restaurants to visit. Alternatively, if you prefer to pack your cooler and rent chairs and umbrellas, that’s an option too.
While Santa Maria, Las Viudas, and Palmilla are also magnificent beach spots, they require you to be self-sufficient, bringing your own umbrella and picnic supplies. This is not to say that the pristine beauty of these locations doesn’t make the effort worthwhile.
Outdoor activities: This region has warm weather all year round and a combination of desert landscapes and coastal natural beauty, providing a ton of opportunities for outdoor adventures. It is suitable for people who enjoy a beautiful day hiking, mountain biking, golfing, horseback riding, and even off-roading in the desert dunes.
Within the area of El Tezal, adventurous souls are drawn to the hiking destinations known as Las Antenas. Another exciting option is the Solmar Mountain, where the experienced guide Enrique leads thrilling hiking expeditions.

Additionally, the area offers countless engaging activities that can be pre-booked before your arrival or spontaneously enjoyed while you’re in town.
Water sports: Los Cabos offers numerous activities for residents and visitors to enjoy such as surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, wave runners, and sportfishing. This area is known for the great fishing tournaments that are organized every year.
A few years ago, my friends and I embarked on an exciting journey into outrigger canoeing. Our adventures began in the early morning hours, and we enjoyed moments of serene tranquility, paddling all the way to the breathtaking landmark known as The Arch.
Before relocating to Cabo, I used to travel a lot to Playa del Carmen and my passion for underwater exploration led me to obtain my scuba diving certification. During my first months in Cabo, I discovered that one of the premier scuba diving destinations is Cabo Pulmo, nestled approximately one hour and forty-five minutes north of San Jose del Cabo. But for those with limited time to spare, there’s also an incredible tour option available nearby. This tour guides you to a splendid location near the iconic Arch, allowing you to immerse yourself underwater. Here, you can swim among different fish species and venture into the interesting world of underwater sandfalls.
Culinary scene and nightlife: Los Cabos offers a diverse and vibrant culinary scene. Whether you savor Mexican or Italian cuisine, seafood delights, Mediterranean flavors, vegetarian options, or prefer a classic steakhouse, we’ve got your culinary desires covered. Also, the nightlife in Los Cabos is lively, particularly in Cabo San Lucas. You’ll find a variety of bars, nightclubs, and beachfront lounges where you can dance the night away.
Some of my top picks include The Nowhere Bar nestled in Cabo San Lucas marina. Another fantastic option is the Speakeasy at Las Ventanas, where you can indulge in a delightful dinner at one of their various restaurants before immersing yourself in the enchanting ambiance of their renowned speakeasy. Alternatively, you can savor a meal at The Cape’s restaurant, Manta, and then head up to their rooftop for some exquisite cocktails.
Cultural experiences: Los Cabos also offers cultural experiences, including art galleries, museums, and local festivals. San Jose del Cabo, one of the two main towns in the region, has a charming historic district with colonial architecture where the “Art Walk” takes place every Thursday. While you are in town you can make dinner reservations in downtown San Jose, then you can walk around, visit art galleries, and listen to music.
Every year we have great music festivals, a film festival, a wine and cheese festival, comedy acts, art exhibitions, the Swan Lake Ballet, candlelight concerts, and various DJs, just to name a few.

Wellness and spa: Wellness is a significant part of the lifestyle in Los Cabos. Many resorts here offer world-class spa services, yoga retreats, and wellness programs. The serene and beautiful natural surroundings make it an ideal place for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Who wouldn’t desire a day of pure relaxation and rejuvenation at a luxurious spa? I’ve had the pleasure of visiting several wonderful establishments, within various budgets, yet all delivering a rejuvenating experience. Among my memorable spa visits are Casa Dorada, Hacienda Beach Club and Residences, Grand Velas Hotel, Playa Grande, and Villas Del Palmar. Each of these venues offers unique perks, from mimosas to extra spa amenities, ensuring a comprehensive relaxation experience. If you’re in search of a simple massage without the frills of mimosas, jacuzzis, or steam rooms, there are skilled therapists available who can bring their services to your location. Some others are conveniently located in the downtown area, offering a range of affordable packages, including manicures, pedicures, and massages.
Natural beauty: Los Cabos is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, including the iconic rock formation known as The Arch, which is a must-visit attraction. The desert landscapes and marine life contribute to the region’s breathtaking scenery.
In 2014, I moved to Los Cabos with my family, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of visiting the iconic Arch countless times. This natural wonder just keeps me amazed, no matter how often I’ve been there, it never loses its magic.
Furthermore, the Arch is not just about the formation itself. I derive immense joy from observing the resident sea lions basking on the nearby rocks, lazily soaking in the warm sunlight. Their presence adds another layer of fascination to this already captivating scene.
Community and expat life: Los Cabos has a growing expatriate community, including retirees and remote workers seeking a more relaxed and enjoyable lifestyle. The local community is welcoming, and many expats find it easy to integrate into the area’s social life.
Having grown up in Monterrey, Mexico, when we relocated to Cabo, one of the first things that struck me was the diverse and welcoming community. It’s remarkable how people from all corners of the world come together in Cabo and the genuine kindness that everyone extends to one another. This warm and inclusive atmosphere has made my experience here truly special.
